Working with Dr. Runté was one of the best writing experiences I've ever had. He was extremely thorough but always thoughtful and supportive in his approach to my work. I appreciate how he always challenged me to articulate my ideas in the best way I could. I enjoyed throwing ideas at him and listening to his insights and perspectives. Everything was done with careful consideration to my own goals as both a writer and lifelong learner. It was an honour to work with him.

Reading [Elizabeth's] comments on the final draft of my MA thesis has been an incredible learning opportunity for me. I wish I would have used your services on some of my earlier papers. Your expertise is most appreciated."

When I started my search for an editor for our final project, I never imagined I'd find a coach! What do I mean by coach . . . I mean someone who is consistently providing feedback in a supportive way. That is excited to be engaged in your project and eager to adjust their priorities in support of your needs. They take the time to understand the why, versus focusing only on the how. From my first engagement with Dr. Runté to the final product delivery, this is the experience I received. He was very prompt in his responses, which aligned well to our time constraints. The fact that we he was located in the same country supported an enhanced awareness of our nuances and his work was amazing! Feedback was easy to follow and allowed for dialogue and consideration versus strict direction. Thank you for not only your support, but your desire to help!

Dr. Runté clearly understands the expectations of writing a thesis. This clarity was invaluable in supporting me through my struggles and final completion of my thesis. He provided clear, straightforward and honest feedback that greatly assisted me whenever I was "stuck" or in "writer's block".

Every day when I sat down to work on my thesis, I stared in horror at the dumbest bunch of words ever put on paper, and considered abandoning the whole project. But Robert wouldn't let me—he goaded, prodded, nudged, and insisted that thesis out of me. Robert cared so much; sometimes more than I did, I think. His confidence in me, his dedication, his gruff enthusiasm helped me see the work differently, more clearly, so that I could shape it into something meaningful. With Robert's guidance, encouragement, and amazing editing skills, I did finish the thing. And it turned out to be good enough to win the Governor General's Award.

Robert understood well (better than I) the possibility in me and the manner of support needed to realize that possibility. He not only guided me skillfully through my master's thesis work, he convinced me to pursue doctoral work. Absent his patience, perceptiveness, the well-placed prompts, gentle nudges, an extraordinary breadth and wealth of understanding, and ever-present belief in me, I doubt I could have dared trust myself. Robert remains for me one of those key individuals for whom I owe a huge debt.

Manuscript Development

Robert Runté has been my editor for more years than either of us care to remember. I have had many, many editors in my career of over 60 novels and novellas, but honestly, I recall none I would rather work with than Robert. I can't recommend him highly enough.

[Dave Duncan subsequently willed his incomplete manuscripts to Robert to edit or finish. The first of these, The TraitorÕs Son, releases August 2020.]

Robert made my first novel a much better story. He outright saved my second novel—perhaps it's more accurate to say he forced me to save it. The process of editing and developing a novel is seldom easy or comfortable, but Robert helped by being right so frequently that eventually I began learning from him almost in spite of myself. I won't hesitate to work with him again.

Robert did a terrific job on my novel. A novel I would not entrust to just anyone. It had to be someone intimately familiar with the genre; someone with a solid grasp of the language; someone who cared, who was willing to go over it again and again, with a maniacal attention to detail. It had to be someone who "got" the tone and the intent. And it had to be someone willing to tell me all the hard truths about the novel that I needed to hear. That was Robert. He spared me nothing, the bastard. And the novel is so much the better for it.

Working with Robert to bring my novel to its final form was deeply satisfying. His editorial requests were always tactfully expressed and lucidly explained. He understood not only my writing, but the story within, and always strove to convey my vision more clearly to the reader. When he spotted a scene that didn't fit or flow in its current form, he guided me through rewriting it with new content and a much more immersive feel. Most of our other work was on smaller details, ranging from simple matters like sentence clarity to much more subtle ones, such as pacing. I'd work with him again in a heartbeat.

Not only did Robert Runté give me thorough, meticulous edits, he gave me insight that went right to the core of bad writing habits so I could go deeper and improve my craft. Not only that—he challenged me to get to the bottom of what I'm trying to do with my book in the first place, and in my mind, that made the difference between a hastily published manuscript and a book that's been carefully refined. I can't recommend him highly enough. I certainly know I'll be coming back for my next one.

By far, Robert Runté is the best editor I've used in many, many years. Not only is he adept at developmental editing, with a keen attention to detail, continuity and plausibility, but a natural copy editor. He has that rare ability among editors to shift effortlessly between non-fiction, fiction, and academic writing. Robert is, quite simply, one of those editors with uncompromising standards.

Halli has a strong grasp of both developmental and copy editing. She's able to view the work from both a technical and artistic standpoint, and edits in a way that nurtures the author's voice and vision. Halli's communication is excellent and she never missed a single deadline, often turning work in early. I would not hesitate to recommend Halli's editing services.

This is absolutely fantastic! Thank you so much for providing your editing services, and so fast! I especially appreciate your feedback: you've given me a lot to think about going forward with this. I will definitely be recommending you to others.

Dr. Runté is a pleasure to work with. I agreed with his edits, observations, and comments, even when I was reluctant to make a change because of the work involved, or his comments caused me to rethink what I had written. I particularly appreciated how he always spelled out why a change should be made, how it would make the book more marketable, and make it a better book.

Writing Coach / Rewriting

Just a note of thanks to Elizabeth, for being about the best help I could have hoped to find for my writing project. I brought a random bin of writings which I had worked on without direction for some time, and she took the time and effort to help carve out a tellable story from the material. Her guidance, direction and encouragement went beyond the task of simple editing, as well as beyond structural editing, as she took on the role of a wonderful coach and sounding board to the project. Without her wise counsel and her writing/editing skills, I would not have gotten this far. It is my very lucky break to have found her.

It looks AMAZING! What wonderful ideas you added; I will definitely use all of them. I cannot begin to put into words how much I appreciate you and what you did for me. You went above and beyond, and I hope to someday meet you and shake your hand in person. I think I will add that to my bucket list.

—Ron Balchan, author, Empty Nest Preppers

Thank you for your feedback from my practice pitch on Friday. My book is a YA mystery which explores how gaslighting skews reality, which was not mentioned in the initial pitch. I'm so proud to tell you that this made a huge difference and [literary agent] Stacey Kondla requested a submission.
